This again was a match that Ivel could have won but they did not take advantage of the opportunities presented to them. In fact Ivel started the more positive with the visitors infringing and offering chances. Ivel opened the scoring with a try from second-row Steve Blight which was successfully converted by Sam Armitstead. This should have driven the home side on but errors led to the visitors getting back into it. Overlaps and defensive line-breaks lead to scores. Two tries, one conversion and a penalty meant that Ivel went into the break trailing when they should have been leading.
Half-time 7 – 15
The second half began with Bristol playing into the setting sun. This did not deter them and they kept on pressurising Ivel. The home team had chances aplenty in the second half and were, in fact, camped within their opponents 22 for long periods of time. Only for the ball to go loose and get turned over. After one of these periods in the 22 Ivel got a penalty which Sam Armitstead converted. Now the tension started to build. After a breakaway try and with 10 minutes left, Ivel were trailing 10-20. They kept on going and by now had used four of their five reserves. Such was the intensity of the match. In the last few minutes Bristol scored another try, again following an overlap on Ivel’s wing. Even a man-of-the-match performance from scrum-half Danny Anderson couldn’t save the day.
