On a glorious Sunday morning Ivel Under 10s travelled the short distance to Sherborne play a 3-way match against Wimborne and Sherborne. Ivel knew they were going to be in for a tough encounter because the last time Ivel played Sherborne the honours were even and Wimborne are one of the best sides in the area.

Ivel vs Wimborne

The conditions were perfect for fast flowing rugby and spectators were not disappointed. Both sides were keen to run the ball and the skill level was extremely high with the ball moving to one end of the pitch to the other. Some great forward play by Cameron Barrett, Will Rendall and Ollie Perkins allowed Ivel’s back line to apply to the Wimborne line. The pressure increased which allowed Harry McHugh to go over the 1st of his two tries. Ivel continued to play some great flowing rugby and this created the chance for Harry to score his second try and for centre Elliot Berryman to score his first.

Score    Ivel 15 vs Wimborne 0

Scorers   Harry McHugh 2 Elliot Berryman

Ivel vs Sherborne

Ivel’s final game was against local rivals Sherborne, both teams had beaten Wimborne so it was nicely balanced for a tough encounter. The game started at a furious pace and Ivel knew they were in a game. Some heroic tackling from Daniel Long, Henry Bowditch, Zac Withers, Sam Hourse and Tom Parnell stopped Sherborne from tacking and early lead. This drove Ivel on and they scored a try which was cleverly worked between Aidan Smith and Daniel Long which allowed Elliot Berryman to burst through the Sherborne defence to score. However, Sherborne replied immediately and scored straight away but Ivel passed the ball to Lewis Fry who powered his way through the Sherborne team to score. Ivel moved the ball wide again and Harry McHugh popped up to score in the corner. Sherborne scored again but it was to late and Ivel held on for victory. All three teams played some fantastic rugby which was played the spirit of rugby and all the players can be very proud of the way they played.

Frome U10  vs  Ivel U10     Sunday 22nd March 2009

In near perfect playing conditions Ivel travelled to Frome on the last of their 4th away game in a row hoping to continue their successful winning streak. They faced a Frome side hoping to avenge their defeat in their last game against Ivel.

The Ivel side carried on where they left off last week against Wimborne and Sherborne with 2 quick tries after some slick handling in the backs and powerful driving with the ball by the Ivel forwards. The Ivel team kept the pressure on and this allowed for a further 3 tries but Frome came back hard and after some good passages of play Frome managed to score. But Ivel came back straight away and scored the final try.

Score     Frome 5 vs Ivel 25

Ivel Scorers    Elliot Berryman, Harry McHugh, Henry Bowditch , Oliver Perkins, Archie Mitchell

The second game was a tougher encounter for Ivel. Frome came out all fired up and put Ivel under a lot of pressure but the Ivel side sucked up the pressure and scored a break away try. This drove the away team on and after some great inter passing between the forwards and backs scored another 2 tries.

Score     Frome 0 vs Ivel 15

Ivel U10  vs  Bridgwater U10     Sunday 5th April 2009

Ivel entertained Bridgewater on a perfect day to play fast open rugby and were looking forward to a tough encounter before the annual tournament at Bournemouth and they were not disappointed.

The first game started at a furious pace and set the tone for both games. Bridgewater made the better start and went ahead with some aggressive running. This seemed to wake the Ivel side and they replied with two quick tries but the contest was not over. Bridgewater came back even stronger and scored to level the scores but then Ivel rallied and scored a further  four tries as the Bridgewater side started to tire and Ivels’ powerful runners found pace to run through.

Score     Ivel 30 vs Bridgewater 10

Scorers     Lewis Fry, Aidan Smith, Elliot Berryman, Harry McHugh Henry Bowditch 2

The second game saw Ivel start on the back foot and after some pressure from Bridgewater the away side took an early lead. Ivel where put under continuous pressure throughout the half but held out until half time. However, the second half was a completely different game for the Ivel side. They moved the ball around and kept the ball away from the opposition forwards which allowed Ivels skilful runners to score four quick tries. As the weather conditions took their toll on a tiring Bridgewater side Ivel managed to score a further two tries. This was an ideal game for Ivel before their trip to Bournemouth and a great way to finish their long and so far successful season.

Score    Ivel 30 vs Bridgewater 5

Scorers    Lewis Fry, Aidan Smith, Elliot Berryman, Dan Long, Harry McHugh 2
