With nearly half the team from the previous week unavailable for various reasons, this was always going to be a difficult game. Unfortunately, from the kick-off, an attempted clearance kick from Ivel was charged down and the visitors scored under the posts and converted. Wimborne added another try before Ivel got into the game. Up front Ivel forwards contested well both in the scrums and lineouts, but basic errors and poor tackling allowed the visitors to score two more converted tries. Ivel thought they had scored when Emlyn Kuhn broke through and went over the line, but the referee called play back for an earlier infringement by Ivel.

This left the half-time score 26-0 to Wimborne.

Almost from the restart, Wimborne scored two more converted tries, but there then followed sustained pressure by Ivel on the visitors' line. Sadly, Ivel were unable to capitalise on this and failed to score but it was the Visitors who broke away and scored a converted try. Ivel's cause was not helped when their captain, Ed Mason, was stretchered off and taken to hospital (he later returned to the club with muscle damage to his neck). Martin Cole came on as the replacement and, with ball in hand, added some real penetration, which seemed to revitalise the home side. Once again, basic errors allowed the strong running Wimborne backs to break through and score several converted tries before the end.

All credit to the 2nd Team players who stepped into the 1st Team, especially to Danny Anderson who pulled off the tackle of the match to prevent Wimborne's winger going over for a try.  The coach is hopeful that those missing players will be available for the local derby against Sherborne at the showground next week.

Ivel’s Man of the Match was Ash Hellier who, despite the odds stacked against them, led the line for Ivel brilliantly.

Ivel travelled to the in form Wimborne, with yet again late changes. Kris Shore who is still carrying an injury from the car crash started at eight with Ed Mason who is waiting for a knee operation filling in on one wing and hooker/back row Troy Fowler on the other. Another back row Matt Berridge filled in at centre!!

Ivel started under no illusion that this would be a very tough game.

The first half Ivel seemed to deviate from the way they had been playing over the past few weeks. Passes were being forced and not going to hand, Wimborne punished every mistake. The Home teams pack secured good ball for a very fluent and quick back line, who scored some very good tries.

At half time the coaching staff reminded the players of the way we wanted to play.

Despite an early score from Wimborne, the Ivel players started to play as in previous games. Joe Donnelly went quickly down the blind, passed to Troy Fowler who scored near the post. Converted by Tom Flynn. From the restart the ball was moved through several phases, from which Ash Pippard broke through, he gave an inside pass to Paul (Stan) Mortensen who galloped in from 20 metres. Converted by Tom Flynn.

Ivel gave everything for the whole game but could not score anymore points.

FT 63-14.

A very tough game against a team who are playing some very good rugby. The lads stuck at it all game. The second half display was very good indeed, Rob Burnell was everywhere and caused the opposition problems all day, therefore he was my man of the match.

We will work hard at training this week with the derby against Sherborne on Saturday . We will need to continue with our game plan that we have been working on at training.
