Ivel 2nds started their league campaign with a tough trip to Wellington 2nds.  Having a different team for the third week running would not make things any easier.

Wellington kicked off and camped in the Ivel 22 for 10 minutes, putting more and more pressure on the defence. Some resolute defence kept them out but eventually their heavier pack drove over for the first score.
This did not deter the young Ivel side and within 10 minutes Ivel were on the attack, Simon Jones gathered the ball on the halfway line and put a delicate kick into the oppositions 22, James Best sprinted after it and gathered to score in the corner.

Now there was belief. the game went from end to end with no one really threatening. Unfortunately Wellington scored from 2 interceptions.  In the back row Gaz Whitcombe, Andrew Cook and Ashley Hellier were everywhere putting in big hits and making a nuisance of themselves. Wellington scored again, but Ivel came back strongly and newcomer Ashley Hellier went over after the whole team had the ball.

The second half started like the first ended. Ivel really fancied nicking this one. For the next 15 minutes the Ivel team camped in the Wellington half and eventually, after some great handling from the entire team, Ash Pippard dived over.

Wellington however had different ideas. With another interception try and a breakaway try they effectively killed the game off but Ivel did not give up and threatened throughout the game.

Second team player coach Martin Cole said "The second team have a good base to work from this season. The commitment and attitude of all the players is fantastic, battling until the end. If we continue this in to training and the next games we will be pushing towards the top of the table. well done lads".

Final score Wellington 41-19 Ivel Barbarians. Man of the match Ashley Hellier
