Ivel entertained top of the table Bridgwater on Saturday with yet another changed team, but still full of confidence and belief.
Bridgwater had a very big and experienced pack of forwards which was, in the end, the difference between the two sides. With a game plan set to keep the ball away from their pack Ivel started well, moving the ball through the hands and dictating the movement of their pack. Unfortunately, Ivel did not stick to their plan and Bridgwater soon started to dominate. The visitor’s forwards were on top at the set piece and break down area, giving great quick ball for their backs to use.
Ivel never gave up and did look dangerous with ball in hand, Adam Williams was strong in defence and attack, Barry Law tackled and caused problems for their number nine all day, the back row of Cook, Jones and Whitcombe were always asking questions with ferocious tackling. Man of the match was Jack Barrow, playing in the second row, his work rate was fantastic. Unfortunately the efforts of the named players and the rest of the team were not enough, and the visitors showed why they are the best team in the league at the moment.
Final score Ivel 0-57 Bridgwater.
Coach Martin Cole said: “Today showed what happens when a team has played and trained together for years. Ivel gave everything but the bigger pack made all the difference. There was a lot to take from this, and the lads will need to learn from it. We will continue to build on all the positives and work hard on the areas we need to. There is now healthy competition for places, which will make everyone work harder to be selected.” |
