Ivel started as the strongest team with Cam Main gaining the first try within the first 5 minutes with an easy conversion for Luke Harker. This was closely followed by Dan Finn who ran three quarters of the pitch in a determined run for the second try (Dan had obviously had his shredded wheat this morning!) with another good conversion for Luke Harker. Wells managed to score an unconverted try from a lapse in concentration and missed tackles by Ivel. Following this set back, Ivel made some excellent ground in the ruck, pushing Wells back and maintaining their advantages to produce some excellent rugby. Two more try’s came in the first half from Duncan Sowerby with Rhys Hughes scoring his first try for the team since joining in December.
The second half saw Wells pick up their game, however, Ivel managed to fend them off several times from their try line preventing them from scoring with excellent defence. From a scramble of both teams later in the second half, Will Lockie managed to grab the ball from a mêlée of bodies, jump over the line to score Ivel’s fifth try, which was not converted. The sixth try came again from Cam Main, which again was not converted.
Although the weather was blowing a gale, with rain in the wind and extremely cold conditions the boys played fantastically well and kept the pressure on Wells to win the match, Ivel 34 – Wells 5.
Man of the match: due to the dreadful conditions the team dispersed immediately following the game and no decision was made.
