U14  17  vs  North Dorset  19   Sunday 20th September 2009

The first game of the season was a tremendous start for Ivel U14’s.  They were up against possibly the toughest team in the fixture list but started with the right attitude that saw Dan Ogden get the first try of the match.

North Dorset clawed their way back into the game and scored 2 try’s and 1 conversion before the first half finished.

In the second half Ivel were determined to take control of the game which they did with Steve Willets and Adam Guest getting the next 2 trys, one of which one was converted by James Robins.

Ivel were now in the lead and it wasn’t until towards the end of the second half that North Dorset had some really good play and got the final try of the match ending the game Ivel 17 North Dorset 19.

This was a great first match and hopefully sets the standard to build on throughout the rest of the season.  Man of the Match was awarded to Adam Guest.

U14 34  vs  Bridgwater 10  -  Away - Sunday 27th September 2009

As this was the first away game of the season and up against a side where there had been one or two issues last season, Ivel were determined to do well.

Within a short period of time Connor McAlpine got the first try which he followed by a conversion.  Steve Willetts went on to get the next try followed by two more tries by Harry Johnson.  Bridgewater managed to get one try before half time leaving the score at  Ivel 22 Bridgewater 5.

The second half saw Ivel get 2 more tries, one by Dan Ogden and the other by Joel Chubb which was converted by Daniel Jarvis.  Bridgewater managed to get one other try in before the end of the game leaving the score at Ivel 34 Bridgewater 10.

This was a convincing win for Ivel.  Man of the Match went to Alex Voss for his sheer hard work and determination throughout the whole of the game.

U14  34  vs  Warminster  0  - Sunday 11th October 2009

The game started off 13 aside due to Warminster only having 13 players. The Ivel team soon adapted to this and proceeded to dominate both possession and territory. The Ivel players seemed to have determination and drive in abundance. Time after time, the Warminster players suffered at the hands on crunching tackles and aggressive rucking. The Barbarians domination in the first half was rewarded with trys from Steve Willets (2), Daniel Jarvis, Ashley Harvey and James Harris. 2 of which were converted by Daniel Jarvis.

Due to the size of the Ivel squad, 9 changes were made at half time. Despite 5 of the boys playing out of position, and 3 playing their first game, the intensity of the tackling continued at the start of the half. One bout of possession saw Ivel set up a maul on their own 10m line, and finish on the Warminster try line! This attack was rewarded with a try for Conner Mcalpine. Warminster displayed a fine attitude and never gave up. The rest of the game was attack after attack for both sides. The size and power of the Warminster pack kept them driving forward, but the Ivel defense was more than equal to every attack. It is a credit to the squad that their try line was not threatened for the whole game.

After a fine start to the season, it is up to the boys to continue the progression they have made in the last 12 months. Well done all who played today.

Final score:  Ivel 34 - Warminster 0

Bridport U14  7   vs  Ivel U14  5   Sunday 18th October 2009

This was a difficult game for Ivel which wasn’t helped by a disruption to the game about 15 minutes into the first half.  We became aware that Bridport had an U15 playing on their team.  After a discussion with the ref and the Bridport manager, the player was taken off and the game continued although neither team rally got back into the game.  Connor Mcalpine scored 1 try for Ivel but Bridport also got a try which they managed to convert leaving the final score at Bridport 7 Ivel 5.

Frome U14  10  vs  Ivel U14  39  -  Sunday 25th October 2009

The final score of this game was Ivel 39 Frome 10.  This was Ivel playing at their best with excellent determination and agility on the field.  It is fair to say that it did take Ivel a few minutes to wake up and realise that the game had begun and that Frome got the first try.  After this though Ivel got into their stride and put everything they had learnt in practice into the game.  There was a lot of movement around the field, the ball was flowing well and Ivel were superb in the rucks.  By the end of the first half Ivel were in the lead by 24 to 5.  Trys were scored by Steve Willetts, Connor Mcalpine, and 2 trys by Joel Chubb.  Dan Jarvis got 2 conversions.  In the second half Steve got 2 more trys and Connor 1 more.  Frome also managed to get a try in the second half.

The whole team did really well with some really good play from Joel who managed to chase a Frome player 3 / 4 of the pitch and stop him just before the touch line.  Man of the Match went to James Harris for his support in the centre and sheer determination.
