Last week saw the team in top form, this week was somewhat different.  Not the best of games for Ivel, probably because it was half term and the lads were tired!  However, they did manage to dominate the game which was full of missed opportunities.  Alex Voss got the first try from a rebound on the try line.  Dorchester pulled ahead in the second half by a try and conversion close to the end of the game.  This made Ivel wake  up a little as they were about to lose the match until in the last minute of play Steve Willets saw an opportunity and through gritted determination made Ivel’s second try of the game leaving the score Ivel 10 Dorchester 7.

Man of the Match was awarded to Nick Murray.

Swanage & Wareham U14 vs Ivel U14  -  Sunday 15th November 2009

Last year Swanage & Wareham managed to beat the Ivel team so this match was going to be interesting as Ivel’s game has improved so much this season.  As usual it took Ivel some time to wake up and get into the game and it was not surprising that Swanage managed to get the first try.  By the end of the first half Swanage had 2 trys and Ivel had 1 by Nick Murray.  At the beginning of the second half the game could have gone anyway but Ivel found their feet and became frustrated with some of the decisions that were going against them.  This appeared to be enough to get the team determined to win.  With some good play Ivel started to move ahead with Connor getting 2 trys and 2 conversions.  A further try was scored by Dan Ogden.  Points of note during this game were some poor passing by the Ivel players; this is one area they need to focus on.  On the other hand the scrum was excellent today overpowering the Swanage team.  Man of the Match was awarded to Nick Murray who had a number of good runs through the field and got his first try of the season.

Ivel U14 51  vs  Sherborne U14  0  -  Sunday 6th December 2009

Despite the bad weather the pitch was still playable.  This was good news as the team were looking forward to a game this weekend because the game against Chard was cancelled last weekend. In previous years Ivel have struggled against the Sherborne side but not this year - the game ended 51 points to Ivel - 0 points to Sherborne!

Connor managed to get 4 trys with 2 conversions, Steve 3 trys, Joel 1 try, Nick 1 try and Dan Jarvis got 2 points for a conversion.  The team played really well despite a number of occasions where the ball seemed to be covered in grease!  There was some excellent play throughout with Dan Ogden setting up a couple of trys.  Of note today was the way Kyran and Steve worked well together in the centre with Kyran being nominated Man of the Match.

Ivel U14’s first cup game was a big success winning 29 – 0, which demonstrated the improvement the team had made this season.

Ivel dominated the game from the outset with the majority of play in the Avonvale half.  The first try was scored by Steve Willetts after a carefully timed pass from Kyran Rooke. Further trys were scored by Connor McAlpine, Joe Everleigh, Nick Murray and another try by Steve (although Connor may claim it as his!); Dan Jarvis and James Robins got the 2 conversions.

Man of the Match was shared between Kyran Rooke for excellent work in the centre and  Dan Jarvis  who had a superb game as scrum half.

This was an excellent start to 2010 for the team which hopefully heralds an exciting second half to the season
