Ivel U9 vs North Dorset U9 - Sunday 4th October 2009 |
| |
|
| Pictures from Sara Cole |
| |
Ivel played their first contact game against North Dorset in what was a lovely day for rugby.
The coaches decided to play it as practice matches and divided the game into Quarters.
Ivel played well throughout the 4 games and overall ran out winners 3 games to 1.
The boys have trained really well over the past couple of weeks and it was good to see the results of everyones hard work.
With 6 players who had never played rugby before, and the introduction of contact, this was a great result and a good starting point to work forward.
Well done boys!!!

Ivel U9 - WINNERS of the Midsomer Norton Tournament - Sunday 11th October 2009 |
| Match 1 vs Midsomer Norton |
|
| |
On a cold and wet day, Ivel travelled to MSN for the annual competition.
7 games would be played in a league system with trophies for first and second.
With a good turnout, 14 players to choose from Ivel started against the hosts MSN.
Ivel came out the blocks flying. moving the ball around and strong running. Ivel soon opened the scoring and didn't look back.
Strong tackling and good support saw Ivel run in 6 tries without reply.
Final score 30-0
Tries Max 3, Aaron 1, Sol 1 and Big Andrew 1. |
|
| |
| |
| Match 2 vs Chew Valley |
|
| |
Next up were Chew Valley. Ivel carried on this game as they had finished the last game, with a rotation of players everyone was eager to get hold of the ball and stop the opposition from scoring. Ivel again scored 6 tries without reply. All the newcomers to the game looked as if they had been playing for years.
Final score 30-0
Tries Max 2, Sol 2, Jake D 1 and Charlie 1. |
|
| |
| |
| Match 3 vs Frome |
|
| |
Frome were our next opponents. We knew this would be a difficult game if previus meetings were anything to go by.
Frome started the game well with some strong runners, but Ivels defence was very good, the tackling was ferrocious at times ensuring Frome could not cross the Ivel line. This was turning out to be a very good battle and a draw would of been a fair result, however Ivel had differant ideas, Captain Sol Withers went over for what turned out to be the only score of the game.
Final score 5-0 |
|
| |
| |
| Match 4 vs Melksham |
|
| |
New opponents were next in the shape of Melksham.
With all the players giving everything the squad rotation was going well, people were slotting into positions that they had never played in before. Ivel soon opened the scoring and still managed to keep Melksham out. The mauling and rucking was really going well giving the opposition no time to work the ball.
Final Score 15-0
Tries Sol 1, Max 1 and Jake D 1 |
|
| |
| |
| Match 5 vs Walcot A |
|
| |
Walcot were our next opponents, again a team we had not played.
Ivel scored early in this game and looked like they would run away with it again, however walcot had other ideas and started to test the Ivel defence. Ivel kept tackling hard and pushed Walcot back. On one occasion some good defence turned the ball over and Ivel ran in their second try. Jaime was really putting himself about hitting every tackle, ruck and maul.
With 2 minutes left it looked like game over but the opposition had other ideas and crossed for a score of their own.
Ivel kept hold of the ball and made sure they kept the winning going.
Final score 10-5
Tries Max 1 and Sol 1. |
|
| |
| |
| Match 6 vs Warminster |
|
| |
Next, again, were new opponents for us, Warminster.
This was a very tough game indeed. Warminster pushed hard at the young Ivel team who did not take a step back, now tackling in pairs, ensuring the opposition could not go forward. In fact the defence was forcing them backwards. It looked like one score would win this game and Ivel made sure it was them. A big tackle turned the ball over and Jake Damon scored.
Final score 5-0
Tries Jake Damon. |
|
| |
| |
| Match 7 vs Walcot B |
|
| |
So one game left, 6 wins out of 6, could the boys keep a 100% win record.
Walcot B were the final opponents.
Ivel kept looking for the first score, but Walcot were making sure that they would have to work extra hard for this one, with strong tackling and good organisation. ivel eventually broke through to score. From the restart strong tackling turned the ball over and Ivel scored again. Walcot did not give up and scored in the final minute.
Final score 10-5.
Tries Sol and Aaron. |

A fantastic performance from all the boys, 7 wins out of 7, scoring 21 tries and only conceding 2. Deservedly the boys won the tournement. All the hard work at training on tackling and defence really showed today, with everyone putting in 100% it was real credit to yourselves. Myself, Alan and the whole club are really proud of you. Keep up the good work.
Team: Sol, Max, Andrew(big), Andrew, Ben, Charlie, Jonah, Elliott, George, Jake R, Jake D, Aaron, Jaime and Ben.
