Ivels first game was against Frome, a team we had played at the recent MSN tournament and only just beat 5-0, I was expecting a difficult 20 minutes.
The team on the other hand had different ideas, they started on all four cylinders, running hard, supporting well, and tackling like their lives depended on it. Soon enough the tries started to come, Sol opened the scoring after 2 minutes, and this spurred everyone on. Within 10 minutes Ivel had scored 4 tries, one earning Jake Reid a pound. (If we knew he was getting a pound a try we could of all been making money). At half time Ivel were 30 points up. Four changes at half time didn’t make any difference the tries kept flowing. Frome did score 2 tries of their own, but ivel kept going, final score (I think) Ivel 50 – 10 Frome.
Up next were BOA, this we knew would be a difficult game. We were not disappointed!!
BOA started really well and passed the ball around well, Ivel kept tackling and putting pressure on but the opposition kept coming forward. Eventually their pressure paid off and the first try was conceded. From the restart Ivel tried running the ball hard back at BOA, but the opposition stood firm. From one attack they stole the ball from Ivel and scored again. Two tries down 2minutes before halftime, now we would see if all the training would pay off. With everyone giving their all, the four replacements were raring to go at half time. With one minute left before the break, Andrew made a dash for the line, with a player hanging on to him Andrew powered over the line. Ht 10-5.
The game was in the balance. Back came Bradford and scored almost immediately. 15-5.
The game went from end to end with no real danger, then Sol collected the ball in his own half and went on a run in and out of defenders, would he make it.....Yes 15-10, 5 minutes to go. Ivel were putting in some big tackles. From one turn over Sol made another break down the wing, as the tackle came in Aaron was on his outside. A great pass put him in the corner. 15-15, 1 minute to go.
Bradford came back hard, great defence by the whole team kept them out and caused a knock on. From the resulting scrum the ball was passed out to Jonah who took on the whole Bradford team, he was clear and about to score when the referee called play back, for a knock on!!!
Full time. 15 – 15
What a great game.
A superb performance from all 13 players, with everyone working together like a well oiled machine.
Thank you to all the parents for travelling again, the boys are really coming together as a team. |
