Ivel started their new season away to Frome 2nds, and they showed straight from kickoff their intentions, with just 33 seconds gone some quick handling resulting in winger Josh Galloway scoring his first of three tries. Frome did not let this affect them and with a strong driving maul inside Ivels 22 they were able to drive over the line to bring them back in the game. Ivel then started controlling the game, with the forwards out powering the Frome scrum turning over the ball and winning a penalty, which was successfully converted by Lee Jones. Ivel now with confidence, were playing some good attacking rugby with good lines of runs from the backs and support play from the forwards. Ivel were able to score two more tries before half time with Lee Jones crossing the line and Josh Galloway getting his second.
Half time 8 – 22
Ivel started the second half as they ended the first, pushing Frome back with strong attacking play. It was not long before Ivel scored again, when Ivel debutant and man of the match Pete Medhurst turned over a Frome ball, Josh Galloway was able to collect the ball and complete his hat trick. Ivel went straight back on the attack and after another solid lineout hooker Joe Stelmaszyk broke from inside his own half to sprint over the line. Then straight from the re-start Ivel captain Paul ‘Stan’ Mortensen was able to break through the Frome defence to dive over the line for Ivels sixth try. Ivel then seemed to switch off and allowed Frome into the game. After a series of penalties Frome were able to play some good rugby and score a well deserved try. Ivel finished the game the stronger side with two more tries through second row Matt Corrigan and Ivels scrum half. After the game coach Martin Cole said “it was good to get the season going. With only 1 warm up game it was nice to see what had been done in training put to good use. We can not get carried away with the good result as we still have plenty to work on and with players still to come back I will have a nice selection headache”. Ivel are next away to Wimborne 2nds
