Ivel finished their final league game of the season with a great show of attacking rugby to win by ten tries to nil. In perfect playing conditions Ivel received the ball from the kick off and went straight on the attack, in only their second attack Ivel’s centre Lee Jones was able to break through a gap in Frome’s defence and race off to the line for the first try of the day, converted by Alex Mcguinn. It was not long before the home side extended their lead when after a good clean line out Ivel’s fly half Ash Pippard was able to step past the Frome players to touch down under the posts. Try converted. Ivel were now fully in control of the game with the forwards setting a solid platform for their backs to attack, which Lee Jones put to good use when he was able to run around Frome’s defence for his second try of the game. Frome were still trying to get into the game but were losing ball at the breakdown and then gave away a penalty in front of their posts, Ivel’s kicker Alex Mcguinn was in good form so was an easy three points to the home side. Ivel ran in two more tries before half time, the first through Matt Ball after a well executed peel ball at the lineout and the second through Winger Pete Rose who was able to step inside Frome’s defence.
HT 43-0
The second half started how the first ended with Ivel applying all the pressure with their strong running and soon Lee Murgatroyd was able to cut through the visiting teams defence to open the scoring for the second half. Try converted. Frome would not give up though and were starting to apply some pressure to Ivel, but the team in black and white were standing strong and preventing Frome any scoring opportunity. Then a good break by Paul Mortenson though the middle of the pitch resulted in Mortenson touching down and seemingly putting the game out of Frome’s reach. Ivel did not let off and went on to score two more tries through Ash Pippard and Paul Mortenson.
FT Ivel 69 vs Frome II 0
After the game Ivel Manager Ed Mason said “it was a great way to end the season, all the stuff we had been working on all season seemed to fall into place and all the lads gave 110% and worked for each other, and now time for a well deserved break”
