Ivel moved to joint top of the league in a game in which they played most of the second half with fourteen players. The home side set the pace of the game, straight from kick off Ivel were attacking the Swanage defence with strong running and good support play. Ivel got a break through on 7 mins when Ivel captain Paul Mortensen was able to cut through the away teams defence and dive over the line. Ashley Pippard added the extras for a 7-0 lead. Swanage then started to get into the game and showed they were going to use their forwards as a point of attack. They were pushing Ivel back with some well worked driving mauls but the home team defence was holding out. Swanage were then given the chance for their first points when they were awarded a penalty in front of Ivels posts. With the kick successfully converted the game started to open out, both teams were attacking well but both defenses were digging deep and preventing any further scores. Then with 5 mins of the half to go, Ivel center Roger Maliszewski was shown a yellow for an illegal tackle, but the home side did not let this effect them with scoring 2 back to back tries before the break the first going to Paul Mortensen (his second of the day) and winger Pete Rose adding the second.

HT 17 – 3

The second half started, and with Ivel already with one player in the sin bin, they were penalized again for another illegal tackle, this time resulting in Ivels prop Neil Jackson being shown a red card. The away sides had a 2 man advantage now and were pushing for the try to put them back in the game. Ivel were being tested but after giving away another penalty within kicking distance, Swanage added three more points to their score. Ivel were now back to fourteen players with the sin bin over, but swanage were still pushing hard, Swanage won a lineout 5m short of the Ivel try line, as swanage won the lineout and popped it down to their charging hooker a try seemed certain until Ivels own hooker Kris Shore who was returning from a career threatening operation, smashed into the opposing player causing him to spill the ball, Shore then collecting the loose ball setting off up the pitch, drawing encouragement from the home supporters Shore was able to shake of all tackles coming his way scoring in the top corner. This seemed to stun Swanage as minutes later after some more good support play Stan Mortensen scored his third try of the game. With just over ten minutes to go Ivel had control but Swanage were not finished, they were using their one man advantage to pull the ivel defence around and were able to score two quick tries. Ivel dug deep though with some strong tackling and were able to see out the last minutes to claim the game.

FT 28 - 17

After the game Ivel Coach Martin Cole said “It was a good win today as we played the second half with fourteen players, it was good to see what we practiced in training put to use, and we have a week off now then some tough selection decisions to make”
