Ivel made the journey to Swans looking to make it four wins in a row for the New Year, but the Yeovil based side came up against tougher opposition. Ivel got off to the perfect start when they were awarded an early penalty and kicked for touch, pushing Swans back to their 5m line, from here the Ivel forwards set up a maul and were able to drive over the line with Joe Stelmayszk touching the ball down, conversion missed. Swans bought themselves level within minutes, setting up a maul 30m from the Ivel line the home side were able to push the Ivel players back over their own line to touch down, conversion missed. Swans went straight back on the attack and won a penalty near the Ivel posts, successfully kicked the home side moved in front. The away side were trying to get back into the game, but Swans more experienced forwards were making it difficult for Ivel to set up a decent platform for attack turning over ball and winning penalties. Swans were finding success in their attacks and were able to score three more tries before half time, all coming through good breaks through the Ivel defence which were well supported by the forwards who were able to clear out the ball and create gaps in the Ivel defence.
HT 25 – 5
Ivel came out in the second half and were trying to play themselves back into the match, but like the first half Swans forwards were breaking up the play. This seemed to be getting under the skins of the away side as more penalties were conceded. With less then ten minutes of the half gone Ivel were reduced to 14 men when flanker Andrew Cook was sinbined after another penalty from Ivel. Wareham with the extra man took advantage and after a good passage of play, they scored their fifth try of the day, conversion missed. Ivels hopes of getting back in the game were dented when after what was deemed an illegal tackle hooker Joe Stelmayzsk was also yellow carded. Swans now had a two man advantage and were really pushing the Ivel defence but Ivel dug deep and held off the attacks. Ivel had only just got back to 15 players when Andrew Cook was shown a red card for foul play, but Ivel were determined to finish on top and after another well worked maul near the Swans line both Kris Shore and Joe Stelmayzsk were able to force the ball over the line for a converted try. Ivel will be looking to get back to winning ways when next home to Oakmedians.
