Ivel moved to second in the league with a hard fought win away to Warminster in a game that could have gone either way. The home side got off to the better start pushing Ivel back testing their defence, but with some strong tackling and forcing Warminster to give away penalties Ivel were able to hold out. The game started to even out with both sides having plenty of ball, but either handling errors or penalties would prevent either side scoring. Then with Ivel on the attack, a dropped ball in the backs allowed Warminster to pick up and score under the posts for a converted try. Minutes later Ivel got back level when some good handling and support play gave Pete Medhurst the chance to score with Tom Armitstead successfully kicking the extras. Then just before half time Ivel gave away a penalty deep in their half which successfully kicked by Warminster giving them the lead at the break.

HT 10 - 7

The second half started with an early penalty to Ivel where Tom Armitstead stepped up and bought the scores level. Both teams now were looking for the lead but were cancelling each other out. Then Warminster managed to break through Ivel’s defence to score an unconverted try. Minutes later Warminster extended their lead by three more points when Ivel gave away a penalty in their 22. Ivel then went straight on the attack from the restart, after some good forwards play, Ivel’s captain Paul Mortensen was able to cross the line and with Tom Armitstead kicking the conversion Ivel were now within one point. Ivel were now looking for the win pushing Warminster back with good use of the driving maul and strong running from the backs. Ivel were then awarded a penalty within kicking distance, Tom Armistead kept his cool and was able to give his side the lead. With only two points in it this set up a tense last fifteen minutes. The play was going from end to end but neither side were able to convert their chances which gave Ivel the win.

After the match Ivel manager Ed mason said “it was good to put last week’s loss behind us and get back winning. We played some good rugby and controlled the game well at times, we still have some work to do to keep our shape for the full 80 minutes but very pleased with the never say die attitude of the players"
