After last weeks win Ivel travelled to Wimborne full of confidence. This was short lived as straight from the kick-off Wimborne pushed Ivel back with some strong running and were soon able to score the first try of the game. Ivel then started to play their way back into the game. With some good forward play they were able to get some good ball to their backs and create a gap for Aaron Hunt to cross the line and with Lee Jones converting the try, Ivel were able to push in front. Ivel still on the attack were able to push Wimborne back and win a penalty within kicking distance. Lee Jones took the chance and successfully kicked for another 3 points. Wimborne did not let this affect them and were able to force their way over the line at the end of the half. This took both teams level at the break

HT 10 – 10

Wimborne started the second half the strongest, testing the Ivel defence. Ivel were holding up until an overlap was created by Wimborne and some quick hands from the home side resulted in a try in the corner. Ivel reacted to this by going straight back on the attack. After some good support play, Ivel’s winger Tom Armistead was able to move his way through the Wimborne defence to score in the corner to bring the scores level. Ivel were now full of confidence and were playing some good attacking rugby. After another break from the Ivel backs, flanker Troy Fowler was in support to cross the line for a try. Then within minutes winger Tom Armistead got his second try of the game for the away side. Ivel had control of the game but then an injury to winger Armistead seemed to rock Ivel. Wimborne were forcing their way back into the game with some good work at the breakdown area and use of the driving maul. Wimborne created their chance and were able to score a converted try to put them within 3 points. With only minutes to go Wimborne kept pushing forward, and were able to force Ivel into a mistake winning a penalty within kicking distance. The Wimborne kicker kept his nerve and successfully kicked the points to end the game 25 all. Ivel faced a strong test in Wimborne and a draw was a fair result as both teams played good rugby with neither side giving up .After the game Ivel’s coach said “ we were involved in a tough game of rugby today, our defence was tested at times but we were able to show when we got in the game we looked very dangerous in attack. We still have some work to do but the support play and offloading was superb today”. Next week Ivel are home to Sherborne II
