A very good performance by Ivel , against a bigger and stronger team.  When they didn’t have the ball the Ivel Colts defended with an excellent determination, both individually and collectively. When they had the ball they created some really entertaining passages of attacking rugby, with the ball passing through many pairs of hands.

In the first half after long periods of pressure Ivel drove over for two tries, one for Ben Watkins and one for Olly Jarvis (one was converted)

12  -  12  half time score

In the second half good hands from Ryan Hughes and Sam Vincent (two 2nd Rows – 1 playing fly half and 1 inside centre) set Mark Gaston free to sprint in for the third try.  Ivel then managed to put themselves under pressure and gifted Frome 2 easy tries (we need to learn from this 10 minute spell).

With 5 minutes left Ivel were trailing 22 – 15.  Ivel forced a Frome scrum within their own 22. As the ball came out from their No 8’s feet, Olly Jarvis (Scrum Half) looked at the Ref who shouted “ball is out”. Olly swooped picked it up and got away from Frome’s  S/Half, before dancing around the winger, to score.

With the last kick of the game – from out wide by the touch line, Mark Gaston converted (without the aid of a kicking tee – which he had left in his bedroom !!)  to win the match.

Final Score Ivel 24   Frome 22

Well done to all the players – Lets take this positive attitude into next week’s league match at Salisbury

A very exciting and entertaining game of Rugby, with lots of strong running and good tackling and defence, from both sides.

Salisbury started in top gear and soon ran in two tries through their well organised backs.  Ivel then got hold of the ball and started to play the off load game that they have used well this season. Following a prolonged period of possession Olly Jarvis crashed over after the ball passed through 4 pairs of Ivel hands in the opposition 22.

Half time       Salisbury  14     Ivel   5

Ivel started the 2nd half as they finished the first forcing Salisbury to drop the ball, under pressure. The ball was hacked through and when the Salisbury winger picked it up he was flattened by Ivel wing Liam Barron, the loose ball was then picked up and passed to Terry Leonard who straightened before releasing Liam down the wing, to score.
At this point the match was very even and an excellent physical effort by both sides.

Following a dropped ball in mid field (by Ivel) the Salisbury back line ran in another try (Ivel had managed to keep them quiet for a long period).  This only brought a greater effort from Ivel. Following a turn over, at a ruck, Ivel gave a short pass to Capt Ben Watkins who battered trough half a dozen would be tacklers, to score
During the last 10 minutes, Ivel had all the pressure and very nearly scored twice – But it wasn’t to be
Another really good team performance.

Full Time     Salisbury  24     Ivel   17

All the players agreed that they need to get physical earlier in the match. Hopefully a home match (Bridport) next week will give the extra incentive needed.
