Ivel travelled to Midsomer Norton to play in one of few remaining games. The weather conditions were perfect for some fast flowing rugby.
Ivel were missing a few of their regulars in the pack but this gave the less experienced players to show what they could do.
The first half started at a furious pace with both sides wanting to run the ball wide. The much bigger Midsomer Norton pack started to gain the upper hand in the scrums and lineouts which didn’t allow the quick and skilful Ivel backs to run at their opponents. However, the Ivel pack started to gain the upper hand with Myles, Ollie, Aaron Briatore and Elliot making some powerful charges into the Midsomer Norton half.
The first score of the game came after some great work in the backs by Zac, Dan Long, George Cameron, Tom Purnell, allowed the time and space for the “try machine” Harry McHugh to skip over for a try. This spurred Midsomer Norton into action and they came back strongly and had levelled the score within a minute of the kick off. They pressured the Ivel line and would of scored if it wasn’t for the heroic tackling of Toby, Aiden Smith, Brendon Hawkins, Alex Purtill and Lewis who stopped them time and time again.
The second half started with a great individual try from Harry who danced his way through the Midsomer Norton defence straight from the kick off. This spurred Ivel into action and after some powerful drives by Dan Long, Ewan and Elliot Ryan the ball was slipped to Elliot Berryman who with the support of Aaron drove for the line but was held up on the line. But Ivel still pressed and after some slick handling by Aiden Smith the ball was popped to Tom Purnell who sprinted over to score in the corner.
This great period of pressure was rounded off by another try by Harry McHugh to make the score 20 v 5 to Ivel. Midsomer Norton started to press and almost scored but were held up on the line by Toby and Aiden Smith. The pressure applied by Midsomer Norton paid off and they scored with the last move of the game.
The game was played at a great pace with both sides fully committed, now Ivel are looking forward to Midsomer Norton coming to Ivel on the 3rd April. |
