Remembrance sunday and a cold and damp Bridgwater was the location for Ivel's fourth game of the season.
Before the game could start
Bridgwater had arranged a 2 minutes silence on the main pitch to remember the fallen from wars past and present, which was well observed by
all.
Early phases of the game brought 2 tries for both sides but then good straight running, persistent tagging and constant pressure
seemed to fluster a less confident Bridgwater side and Ivel headed into the break ahead.
Good defensive work from all especially Liam with
strong tagging, good straight running from all with Freddy driving hard up the pitch, good support from the team leading to further
scores.
The second half saw Ivel take their foot off the gas and not capitilise on their superiority, with parts of the game getting quite
scrappy, however the game ended with Ivel victorious ten tries to five.
Try scorers were Rory (5), Simeon (2), Liam, Ethan and a debut try
this season for Freddy. Murray returned from his extended holiday and showed some good runs but needs to concentrate on straightening these
up. Tom's progression continues and he needs to work on his confidence and i think will grow with the team he has around him.
This puts the under 7s with 3 wins from the 4 games this season, and the loss against Castle cary in our first game was entirely down to our mistakes,
watching Bridgwater reminded me of how far the boys have come and they should all feel proud of the progress that they have made.
This was
another solid performance and i can't choose a man of match this week.
Areas for improvement for next weeks training session will be
1
Staying on side
2 Organisation - being ready to defend or attack before the opposition.
3 Practise of passing infield from the free pass
when close to the touchline.
4 Proper grounding of the ball - there were times when some tries looked like they had almost been dropped
when over the line
on the plus side
1 good straight running - (this leads to the opposition having to retreat and defend whilst we are
always moving forward in support)
2 excellent pressure, forcing the opposition into mistakes, and strong tagging.
3 A hunger and keenness
to be involved
Many thanks to all the parents and family for the support on the touchlines, especially Tom's dad for keeping score and
Ethan's dad for running with the boys as i was asked to referee. I am truly grateful for all this support which really makes it easier for
me.
