First game of the new season and Castle Cary proved to be excellent opposition, the gathered support were treated to an excellent end to end encounter played in a good sporting spirit. Both teams were over-boiling with enthusiasm and there was some excellent running, passing and tagging.

Ethan gave Ivel an early lead after a sharp run down the wing, but Cary responded almost immediately and this set the theme for the whole game. Energetic runs from Murray, Simeon and Max were spoiled by drifting into touch and gifting Cary the ball.

Strong tagging by Freddy,Owen, Ryan and Tom made it difficult to breach Ivel's line, but Cary had some strong runners too and the game was tied after a magnificent 4 tries from Rory.

Both teams were keen for more and a second game was quickly organised, Ethan was very sporting in filling for Cary who were a man down for a while. This game was similar to the first but Ivel mistakes, and Cary's excellent organisation in defence meant that the visitors took the game 5-3. another try for Rory and one apiece from Max and Ryan ended a good Ivel performance against a strong Cary team.

Ivel man of the match was Rory who's strong maze like running which bagged his 5 tries, swiftness back to defend and full attention to the game set a fine example for his team mates.

Plus points from the game were the strong forward running, excellent control with 2 hands on the ball and good persistence.

Areas for improvement were defensive organisation, keeping out of touch and more tackling of tags and not the player.

There is no under 7 category for the Midsomer tournament next week (10th) and hence no game, there will be a training session to build on this performance.
