SCORE: Ivel 10 – Lychett Minster 7
UNCONVERTED TRYS SCORED BY: James Haiselden (Jon's down a fiver already!!) and Dan Kennett.
MAN OF THE MATCH: Jon Hicks - on his return from a knee injury, which took him out for most of last season. Well done Jon, a fantastic result.
REPORT: Our first match in the ‘pouring rain’ was a fantastic start to the season against a well-disciplined team from Lychett Minster (LM). Starting training early has paid off for Ivel, as everyone played well right from the whistle with James Haiselden scoring the first try of the match and season within the first 5 minutes and Dan Kennett sealing the win with Ivel’s second try towards the end of the second half.
Throughout the game rucking went well, mauling was okay and the line outs were good. There is a special mention to Zubair who ran like the wind all the way from the side line (having replaced Dan Trapnell who left the pitch with a shoulder injury after a heavy tackle), to the top corner of LM’s Try line, almost preventing a try, which was a fantastic effort.
Overall the team defended excellently preventing several try attempts by LM, holding up the ball and causing LM to make mistakes, which Ivel took great advantage of. Well done to the whole team. Everyone played brilliantly and should be proud of all the effort undertaken in pre-season training, which had its results in today’s game. Keep it up. |
