SCORE:    Ivel 15 – Swans 12

CAPTAIN FOR THE DAY:    Jon Hicks

UNCONVERTED TRIES SCORED BY:     Jake Oliver, Connor Bell and Harry Young

MAN OF THE MATCH:    Was between Arran Williams and Harry Palmer as they both worked extremely hard at the front with Neil making his final decision on Harry for his drive and determination in the pack.

REPORT:  On a very hot and sunny day in ‘October’…….. Jake Oliver got Ivel off to a good start, gaining the first try in the first 5 minutes with an excellent run from the half way line.  Connor Bell scored Ivel’s second try after a lot of battling and determination to take it over the try line.

Ivel’s discipline and form waned slightly allowing Swans to gain two tries in quick succession with one try being converted, which took them into the lead by 2 points going into half time.

Ivel made team changes at half time but struggled to keep the line in place, bunching up and becoming drawn in to active play, instead of keeping the shape for the ball to be passed out.   Swans played well with only 14 players and were reduced to 13 players when one of their players was sent off in the last 10 minutes for kicking James Cohen on the ground.

In summary, the front row was magnificent today.  Ivel need to control the ball more as we have a powerful pack and the rest of the team need to support the hard work the forwards put in. Although we were lucky to win today, the team needs to improve dramatically to beat Sherborne next week, as the basic mistakes being made today will be penalised with Tries by Sherborne.

SCORE:                                      SOMERSET CUP GAME  -  North Petherton 38 vs Ivel 12

CAPTAIN FOR THE DAY:           Arran Williams

TRYS SCORED BY:                   1st Half -    Zubair Asif (unconverted)  2nd Half - Jake Oliver (converted by Dan Finn)

MAN OF THE MATCH:               Sam Jackson for his outstanding efforts today in carrying the ball well and being involved                                                    throughout the whole game.

REPORT:  Ivel showed a great improvement from the last time they played North Petherton who proved to be the better side on the day.  The score line doesn’t depict the effort put in by Ivel who should be very proud of their efforts today.

Unfortunately, Ivel had a couple of injuries in today’s match with Jake Morgan coming off with a painful ankle and Jacob Pitman who took a nasty knock to the nose - there was blood and everything! (good luck to Nikki washing that out!), hope it doesn’t hurt too much Jacob.

North Petherton scored 3 Tries and 3 conversions in the first half with Ivel scoring 1 unconverted try by Zubair Asif, giving a score line of 21 - 5 going in at half time.

Ivel battled and defended well holding North Petherton in the second half to 2 Tries and 2 conversions with Ivel scoring 1 try by Jake Oliver which was converted by Dan Finn, giving a final score line of 38 - 12.

IN SUMMARY The tackling was good in the first half with Zubair scoring a really good try.  However, it was thought that the team still need to work on getting low in tackles and providing the right support at the right time.  Scrummaging worked really well today and the forwards were outstanding.

It was just unfortunate that North Petherton had a star player who, on several occasions, out-ran Ivel players, this is due to the fact that this particular player is the third fastest under 15 year old in the country!  It was noted that if Ivel players want the ball and are in a position to take the ball they must SHOUT for it.  Also, the team needs to be more aggressive in tackles for the whole game and if a player feels they are going to panic, then they must remember to ‘PANIC SLOWLY’.

If the whole team react like Bradon Williams, improvements will be made to stop getting isolated in the middle. Dan Finn had a good solid game.  Dan Kennett made some good runs with Zubair Asif and Jamie Spurway both playing well.

Bridgwater U15 10-17 Ivel U15.

As wins go this would fall into the category of ropey as opposed to pretty. The team spent longer getting changed than it did to put points on the board.

From  the kick-off Ivel pressurized Bridgwater  with aggressive defense leading to a scrum 10 meters out.  Zubar ran a big cut line from inside centre to collect the scrum half's pass and powered over  to score within minutes of the start.

Ivel then camped in the Bridgwater half for much of the 1st half but consistently failed to take their chances.  Harry Young eventually added more points thanks to a storming run from the blind side to score under the posts. Jamie Spurway adding the extras. 0-12 at the break but the game should really have been out of sight.

The Ivel coaches inspiring team talk worked wonders with Ivel conceding a try within 5 minutes from the restart to bring Bridgwater back into the game at 5-12  To their credit Ivel attacked from the restart Zubar adding another try thanks to a powerful charge from the ruck after a succession of powerful runs from the forwards around the fringes 05-17.

Ivel renewed their Millets card and once more set up camp in the Bridgwater half. Poor decision making and a failure to support the runner however led to a succession of penalties at the break down  gifting field position to the opposition. Ivel kicked the ball away poorly deep into the second half compounding this with a poor chase to gift Bridgwater the ball near the end of the game. A sweeping counter attack led to an excellent try pulling Bridgwater to within 7 at 10-17.

The game ended with Bridgwater looking for a leveling score. In truth but for Ivel forgetting that the season for giving was over Bridgwater threatened little. This has perhaps been the story of the season thus far. Rugby's a simple game, pass to someone in the same shirt. tackle someone in a different colour shirt. Do that more than the opposition and you win.

Notable performances from Zubar, Ben Alford and Jake Oliver who moved from fly half to blindside flanker and back again like you do!

Outstanding performance from the U15s today.  Forwards awesome for the whole game, scrums & line-outs against the head and lots of strong running with dynamic off loads.

After a couple of turnovers in the early stages of the game the rucks and mauls became well controlled with the ball being worked to the back and recycled through the scrumhalf.

The most significant difference today was the backs; they were very well organised both in attack and defence and anyone of them could of been Man of the Match, in the end Will More, at outside centre, and Rhys Hughes, at left wing, just got it due to a combination of their tackling defence and inter-play in attack.

Scorers: Tries Dan Kennett (x3) Arran Williams (x2) and Jon Hicks with Dan Kennett kicking a conversion.

Ivel 35 Taunton 12

First really warm day of the season and Ivel got off to a dominant start at the set piece.  With plenty of scrum and line out ball, Ivel opened up an early lead through two tries from the backs, Rhys Hughes in the corner and Jamie Spurway, after a line break followed by a strong run, dotting down under the posts for Dan Kennett to convert.

Ivel's next score was a penalty converted by Dan Kennett however, unfortunately this was the last score for Ivel of the half with Taunton coming back strongly to match Ivel's two tries and a single conversion so at the break Ivel only just had a slender 3 point lead.

From the start of the second half Ivel re-asserted their forward dominance with outstanding set piece play and rucking. Taunton's indiscipline cost them dear, setting up Ivel for a Doug Caddick try under the posts that was converted by Dan Kennett.  The forwards kept things tight for a period and this resulted in two more tries, one each for Dan Kennett and Arran Williams.

Ivel started to open things up and Zubair Asefi made a strong run from in side the Ivel half, he then made an excellent deep pass to Dan Trapnell running from deep attacking the right hand side of the pitch.  After some deft running Dan off loaded to Will More who beat the Taunton defender on the outside to cross the line, whilst trying to move the ball under the posts he was tripped by a Taunton player but still managed to get the ball down.  From a long way out Dan Kennett's conversion was close but came off the post.  Ivel were awarded a penalty to restart the game, due to the Taunton trip, and opted for a scrum on halfway this was to be the last play of the game with Ivel scoring 20 unmatched points in the second half.

Overall an impressive performance across the board for Ivel with all players making significant contributions.  Man of the Match was Bradon Williams for his contribution at the breakdown.
