First off, Thank you to Sherborne for being fantastic hosts, with special thanks to Jeff (Sherborne under 7’s coach).

Due to the large number of newcomers to both sides it was agreed to run a joint training session and build up to a game.

The game itself went really well considering how short of time we’ve been together.  Some very good runs were rewarded with tries & with a bit more space awareness and support play even more would be forthcoming.

Defending was especially good with everybody coming away with tags.

I’m looking forward to the coming weeks where hopefully we can grow and improve and get everybody really involved.

Lastly we were spoilt for choice for a man of the match with everyone trying hard and doing their bit for the team, in the end Ben was chosen for his tagging and support play.

Thank you everyone for turning up and remember Chris will be running a training session this Sunday.

Thank you to everyone for coming today, due to the exceptionally large numbers on both sides it was decided to play four games consisting of two seven minute halves. All games being played at a frantic pace( I hope chris struggled to keep up with the games as much as I did !!!!) although a very well drilled bath team won all four games, I  saw enough from these performances to think it won’t be long for results to go in our favour.

Defensively we are starting to form a defensive line right across the pitch making it harder for attacking teams, a little more game time would give us a bit more awareness during broken play to stop opposition attacks but it’s still early in the season yet.

Tagging was absolutely fantastic from everybody and couldn’t be faulted. Leading on from the sherborne game, some very good darting runs were rewarded with tries, the main difference being in the way everyone tried to support the runner, this will help us in future games to get some more point’s on the board where today only small errors prevented more tries.

Well done everybody see you on the 30th October for home training or possible game against Bournemouth. As yet to be confirmed.

Deciding a man of the match today was extremely difficult as we had fourteen candidates to choose from. Eventually Toby and Harry were chosen for their all round attacking and defensive game.

Once again a small army of black and white harlequins were waiting for the travelling Bournemouth team. A small training session was underway with the emphasis today on support play and tagging.

The games today were a lot closer with players starting to find their feet. What was enjoyable was all the games were high scoring end to end games, with lots of new and different players getting on the score sheet. Tiny little errors hindered us today ( players running into touch, knock ons giving  Bournemouth easy balls) aside from these there was very little between the two sides, we look forward to addressing these in a training session before the game at Bridgwater next Sunday.

On the positive side a great deal of improvement in almost all areas, support play was fantastic, with every one busting a gut to get up with the ball carrier, tagging is improving every week. Very pleasing to see was players taking the initiative to run straight, and towards gaps in the defence.( remember – spaces not faces!!!!!). Credit must go to Josh for the way he read the game and used his initiative to drop back in broken play to act as a sweeper – well done.

A big thank you to all the parents who helped today with the taking of photo’s, time keeping , scoring etc.I’m glad you parent’s are deciding on the man of the match, as it’s getting more and more difficult each week with everyone improving leap’s and bound’s.

Jake and Harry are this week’s M.O.M. for their attacking runs stout defence and all round endeavour.

Fantastic numbers again on a deceptively cold and windy day. On behalf of Chris and myself can I thank all the parents who stood in and got involved in todays training session.

Firstly I’ll apologise to all the players who only got one half of game time today, as I was expecting to play three small games today, so I’ll try to rectify that next week.

Strong running with ball in hand was the order of the day ,resulting in the majority of the tries coming from the number two runners, but I did notice two or three support runners  keeping up to pick up the pieces should a tag be made, which is pleasing. Having been tagged, the passing could do with a bit more work as we are tending to give the ball away with misplaced passes or knock ons, which has cost us dearly in recent weeks, If we can learn to support in numbers and keep hold of  the ball using space and simple passing we can keep possession and hopefully score more tries.

I could  mention good points in every individual today, but with nearly twenty players it would take to long , Adam and Theo were pointed out for a special mention having just moved up from the reception group, they worked tirelessly , tagged, chased, and forward with the ball. Man of the match goes to Ellie who has improved week on week, but today tagged and chased, supported and scored her first try ,

Match Report : Ivel under 7’s V Wellington Under 7’s Sun 4h Dec

A big thank you to our hosts today, Wellington RFC for the friendly welcome & 2 very enjoyable games for both teams.
Due to the large numbers we have & the forthcoming Ivel Festival in January we have decided to create 2 teams to enter which we will call Ivel Lions & Ivel Tigers , so as not to have children standing around not getting much match play.

Today was the first time we have tried these teams with the players that were available.

Game 1  Ivel Tigers  14  V  11 Wellington

The first game for the Ivel Tigers turned out to be an absolute ‘try fest’ a fast paced game with some exciting runs from Rhys & a great pass to Toby for one of his many tries. Ollie & Sam showed they have been listening in the last couple of weeks because there support play was fantastic. Jake made some clever runs , with some great side steps to wrong foot the Wellington defence.

In between Ivel scoring there was some great defensive pressure from Toby, Joseph & Adam pushing Wellington into touch or turnovers

Try scorers; Toby 8 , Jake 3, Samuel 1, Ollie 2

Game 2 Ivel Tigers 8 v 8 Wellington

More of the same in this game, with strong runs being rewarded with tries for Jake. A fantastic run down the side line giving Rhys a deserved try.

Adam got a try for the second week in a row scoring twice, Toby was next on the score sheet with great support from Adam , Samuel & Ollie.

Even though there were some fantastic tries , a lot of parents also commented on how well Ivel defended & supported as well as working as a team.

Try scorers: Jake 3,Adam 2, Toby 2, Rhys 1

Some great stuff boys well done to everyone for some great all round play Man of the match was Rhys for his sweeping, patience & listening

Game 1 Ivel Lions 5 v 5 Wellington

Played at the same time as Ivel tigers was Ivel Lions 1st game.   This game may of not have been as high scoring but was equally as entertaining with aggressive tagging from both sides.

Darren eventually broke the deadlock with a searing run along the touchline with Harry & Ethan supporting. More great defending prevented either side scoring, with Ivel defending in numbers with Darren, Caleb, Harry & Louie all grabbing tags like men possessed!! Harry was next to score with another long run finishing in the right hand corner again with Ivel players chasing hard to provide support.

Darren scored again for a half time score of 3 -3.  Louie got his just deserves for his good running & supporting to score 2 2nd half tries.  Caleb & Ethan need a special mention for a lot of hard work & valuable tags to help tie the game 5 -5

Try Scorers; Darren 2 , Harry 1, Louie 2

Game 2 Ivel Lions 7 v 6 Wellington

This game was a very free flowing, competitive match.

Wellington scored twice before 2 more tries from Darren, with Louie & Harry there ready to have the ball should he have been tagged.   The 2nd half provided the most pleasing try so far this season , a long darting run from Louie getting to within a metre of the try line, where he quickly turned & popped a pass to Darren who had tracked him all the way to score his 3rd try with Ethan also in striking distance.

Next to score for Ivel was Harry who had run tirelessly all game tagging & pressurising Wellington, this time with the ball in hand ran through the Wellington defence to score in the corner.

Another try from Darren had us drawing 6 -6.  Lastly but by no means least Ethan , who had tagged  & pressured all game scored a dramatic last gasp try to win the game & also get his 1st try.

Try Scorers: Darren 4, Harry 2 , Ethan 1

Well done again Lads a great Team effort Man of the Match was Darren for his good all round play & for listening to his coaches.
