A beautiful sunny day graced the second Ivel festival, a total of 10 teams came to visit and prove
themselves against some excellent opposition.
Ivels early games saw us struggle to get up to pace and mistakes such as running into touch
cost us two games that we probably should have won but ultimately drew. Many positives came out of the day especially forward running by
all players, some excellent tagging as well- but we need to use the space wisely. Overall the games where we struggled were the games where
we could not break through strong but localised defence.
We need to work harder on passing before the tag to keep the ball alive and keep
players in the game.
It was a good opportunity for me see how other teams have progressed - the most improved since last year i thought
were Midsomer Norton who easily won our group and were narrowly beaten by Taunton in the final. They were excellent in defence especially
their organisation and tagging - areas where we need to improve.
Overall we drew 2 games, won one and lost two which left us third in our
group.
Many thanks firstly to everyone involved in organising such a fantastic day. I would especially like to thank Alex who, along with
his wife Jo ran the whole of the under 8s matches.
Thank you to all of the parents and family who came along to support- the encouragement
means a lot to all the players and me.
