Thank you for a good turn out for our first home game. It was going to be a hard game as Bath turned up with a small army of 21 players, but spirits were high.
The first game kicked of with Bath straight on the attack; some good tackling and contesting for the ball in the ruck area kept Bath on the back foot, with some great tackling from George and Jay Bath were finding it hard to get past the gain line. Eventually with some good passing and just a little bit of bunching Bath managed to run round and open the scoring.
Ivel was straight back on the attack with runs from Matt, Alistair and new player Henry, only to be stopped by either some great tackling by from Bath or by being pushed into touch. With Bath again on the attack from the line out, some sloppy tackling and a bunched defence Bath was able to score again.
With the game still within reach, the players came out even more determined, great running by Molly and some good support play kept Bath’s defence very busy, with finally Matt being able to score in the corner.
As the game progressed Bath’s attack became relentless, with great tackles coming in from George and Neo slowed there pace down a little, but due to quiet passing and lazy defence Bath was able to score another 2 try’s.
Final score Bath 4 – Ivel 1
The second game was much more even, with a new determination Ivel came out for revenge, with again some great defence by both teams and some good support this game went back and forth, only by a mistake in defence and a good weaving run from Bath were they able to score.
Ivel had lots of chances but just couldn’t cross the line, unlucky for Neo who ran and weaved his way down the pitch only to be tackled short of the line.
Final score Bath 1 – Ivel 0
Two very good games against a well drilled side, that’s the biggest pitch you’ve played on so far, well done to everybody, especially new player Henry, who seemed to enjoy himself and get stuck in and ‘Man of the Match’ George, who is our smallest player but put in some tremendous tackles and had some great runs. It doesn’t matter how small or big you are if you tackle with conviction then they will hit the floor.
Have a nice half term and see you all on the 30th.

What was supposed to be training session turned out to be 2 very good games of rugby by both teams!
With some last minute preparations the team was ready for a tough game. Both games were played at a tremendous pace, with some great attacking play from Bournemouth and some tenacious tackling from the Ivel players.
Unfortunately quick passing and some nimble footwork let Bournemouth in for the first score. Not deterred, Ivel came back strong, with some great running from Jack, Matt, Charlie & Neo, but again the defence held strong, only for some sloppy play gave the ball back to Bournemouth who scored again.
The second half was just like the first, backed with great runs and tackling from both teams. As the game went on both teams became more eager to cross the line. Again with some straight aggressive running by Jack, reaping his reward by crossing the line to score Ivel’s first try.
Bournemouth again came back strong with their biggest player taking the ball from the kick off and with some very sloppy tackling just ran through the whole of the Ivel team to score. Ivel had a few more attacks with Neo picking it up from his try line and weaved himself in and out of the defending players managed to run all the way to there try line only to be tackled inches from the line. A very good game by both teams.
The second game kicked off and was a repeat of the first game, again great runs by Matt, Thomas, Noah and George, and some brilliant tackles by Neo, Jay and Henry. The best tackle again goes to George who tracked backed 15 metres to carry out a try saving tackle. Well done George.
Man of the Match this week goes to Neo, well done mate, some great runs and some great tackles. Keep it up.
Like to thank all the parents for making the effort and bringing the players to the games.
Sorry no photo’s this week as didn’t realise there was a game!!!!! |

I would just like to thank all the parents for getting there nice and early so we could have a little training session before the match began; I think it’s really helping with the way we play the game.
Matt captained a very determined Ivel side, Ivel won the toss and lined themselves up in an attacking position, straight from the whistle Ivel hurtled out of the blocks with some great running from Neo & Jack, good support play by Matt, Kyle and David kept Petherton on the back foot, again only by some sloppy play and some great counter rucking by Petherton were they able to get on the attack and due to some poor tackling unfortunately let them in for the first try.
Ivel with their heads back up again came on the attack, some weaving running from Thomas and Jack put Ivel in the oppositions half, with some good recycling Neo picked the ball up and ran round the outside to level the scores.
From the restart Petherton picked up the ball and again with some poor tackling ran straight through the heart of the Ivel defence and scored an easy try.
From the restart Ivel had some good passages of play, some great mauling, rucking and support play by Jay and George kept the ball alive allowing Neo to weave his way through the defence and score in the corner to level the game 2 - 2 at half time.
With a good half time talk Ivel were looking for their first home win of the season, with Petherton starting on the attack and with some weaving runs of their own and some quick recycling they were able to cross the Ivel line once again.
Ivel still hungry for a victory piled on the pressure with again great running from David, Josh and Thomas only to be stopped by some great tackling from Petherton, who turned the ball over and ran in another try.
As the game progressed the Ivel players began to get tired, and more and more little mistakes crept in, this allowing a further two tries to be scored.
The second game was very one sided, with some great tackling coming in from George, Jay and Thomas and some nice running from Jack, Matt & Neo unfortunately couldn’t stop a very determined Petherton team who ran in 5 tries.
Overall two very good games, with some great rucking and mauling, still need to work on the passing, there was a number of times where a pass could have ended in a try. The tackling is good but still need to get them around the legs, not the chest.
Man of the Match this week was Jay Genes, for some tremendous tackling and an all-round good game.
Areas to work on for next week’s game:
- Tackling – Must go low, not high.
- Support the player; if you’re not there he’s got no one to pass to!!
- Protecting the ball in the ruck, don’t get counter rucked off the ball!!!!
- Remember lads, let the ball do the work, it moves quicker than you do.
Sorry guys no photo’s this week!!!! |

I would just like to thank all the parents & players for making the effort to travel up to Burnham on a very cold morning during the half term break. With a very small squad of 7 we prepared ourselves for 2 very tough games on a very big pitch.
The first game was against the home team Burnham, with 7 aside and a massive pitch to play on it was going to be a game for the speedsters!!!! Burnham kicked and instantly ran to the corner for the 1st try, Ivel replied from the kick off with Neo running round the outside and scoring. For the next 3-4 minutes both teams would kick off and score, until nearing the end of the first half Burnham put up some good defence, stopping our main runners and stripping the ball from Ivel, leading to them scoring a further 2 unanswered tries. Still in the game, Ivel kicked off the second half with some great running from Neo, Jay & Josh & good support play from George, Jack & David, this constant pressure was rewarded with a couple of quick tries, as the game progressed tired legs came into play and the tackles started to drop off which gave Burnham some easy tries. A very good game to watch with some great open running and support play.
Final score Ivel 5 Burnham 8
The second game was against Clevedon who had just beaten Burnham and who had a few more players than Ivel. From the whistle Clevedon came straight on the attack, and with some good running and support play opened the scoring. Even though the Ivel players were cold and tired they never let their heads go down, again with some great running from David and some good ruck & mauling & support play were able to give Clevedon a good game of rugby despite the score line.
Final score Ivel 1 Clevedon 8
Overall 2 very tough games, you all played very well and should be proud of yourselves. Still a few silly mistakes being made but 2 great running games of rugby to watch.
Man of the Match this week is Neo for some great running & all round good game.
Try scorers Neo 4, Jack 1 & Jay 1 |

I would just like to say a big thank you to all the Mums for giving up your special day so the kids could have a game of rugby.
With a very small band of merry men (8) we were ready to take on Frome, after a disappointing game last week the players were ready to redeem themselves and play the rugby that they know they can produce.
The first game was very close, some great weaving runs by Neo & Jack and some tremendous tackling by George, Jay and Charlie kept this a very thrilling match. With each side scoring tries it went down to the last minute where unfortunately Frome sneaked in to give them the win.
A different group of players came out for the second game, Ivel were supporting, passing, running, tackling, it was great to see them playing with skill and determination. Frome didn’t know what hit them. Some great work and pressure by Henry, Kyle & George making Frome make mistakes where we picked up the ball and with support players nearby scored try after try. It was great to watch from the side-lines.
Well done to everyone who turned up, it was a long way to go but 2 very good games of rugby.
Game 1 Ivel 3 – Frome 4
Game 2 Ivel 5 – Frome 1
Man of the Match this week goes to Henry, for getting stuck in and some great tackling. Keep it up mate.
Try scorers : Neo 4, Jack 3 & Charlie 1
Let’s keep this momentum going, not many games left of the season, Next week Tournament at Taunton RFC, come switched on and ready to play, let’s not embarrass ourselves. |
