Thank you to all the parents who made the long journey to Wellington and again giving up there Sunday mornings for their kids and the other players in the team, it’s really appreciated.

We arrived at Wellington to a slightly damp and muddy pitch; great conditions to play rugby, with confidence high from last weekend’s double home victory, Ivel were ready to keep the winning streak alive.

With only a small squad of 10 against a rather larger squad of 25!!! Ivel were ready to go in to battle. With Rocco making his debut and winning the toss Ivel went straight on the attack, with great running from Neo & Jack with good support from Jay and Rocco, we began to get closer to their line, but as so often foiled at the last by some careless play, with the ball turned over Wellington didn’t hang around and with some very sloppy and missed tackles Ivel let Wellington in for the 1st score.

Straight back on the attack with George and David again close support from Molly, Kyle And Henry, some quick rucking and passing out to Neo who managed to weave his way through the field only to be tackled inches from the line. Wellington continued to attack hard with good tackling from Jay, Rocco and George temporarily keeping them out, finally too much pressure and a good weaving run put them in for the second try.

Again some good hard running from Jack & Rocco put Wellington under pressure but after some great counter rucking and some missed tackles Wellington went in for their 3rd try.

With the score still within reach, some hard attacking, great weaving runs by Neo with some good passing to Jay almost got Ivel’s 1st try, but for a great cover tackle denying them. Wellington still wanting more Ivel handed them another 2 tries with some more missed and sloppy tackling.

The second game went the same way as the first, Wellington brought on a whole fresh new team and again ran hard and fast at Ivel, with heads still high Ivel put on a great show of defence and counter attacking, but due to having 12 sets of fresh legs Ivel just couldn’t keep pace with the Wellington team, Jack did manage to get to breach there defence and with a good little dart down the blind side and some good strength managed to score in the corner.

Overall a good effort by all against a very well drilled side.

Scores: Game: 1 Ivel 0 – Wellington 6, Game 2: Ivel 1 – Wellington 5

Areas to work on:

  1. We need to pass the ball!!!! The ball moves faster than you do.
  2. Tackling, some awesome tackles going in, but we need consistency!!!!
  3. We need to be more aggressive in the ruck and mauling areas.
  4. We need to stay onside!!!!!

Man of the Match goes to Kyle, well done mate, for an all-round good effort and getting stuck in!!!
